Bibby Wavemaster1 officially named!

At 1300 on the 6th of September, in the cruise terminal of Port Rotterdam, Bibby Wavemaster 1 was officially named. The ceremony took place in front of more than 125 guests from Bibby Group, Damen and a range of industry partners. More than 10 members of the Bibby family attended, lead by Sir Michael Bibby, CEO of Bibby Line Group, while the Damen family was represented by Chief Commercial Officer Arnout Damen. The naming of the Bibby Wavemaster 1, which was completed by Lady Sponsor Mrs Jacky Blaikie, the wife of CEO Stephen Blaikie, is the culmination of a programme that began in 2013. The goal was to develop a vessel that could meet the needs of the offshore wind industry in an efficient, economic and environmentally-responsible way. This goal has been surpassed as the vessel can not only accommodate wind farm personnel, but also Oil & Gas terminal personnel too.

Built to operate at sea for up to 30 days at a time, the SOV has specially-designed accommodation for up to 20 crew and up to 70 client technicians, and is fully equipped with a gym, sauna, cinema, and high-speed connectivity. The ship’s 90m hull, 20m beam and 4.6m draught aid in its seakeeping qualities and add to the onboard comfort.

CEO Stephen Blaikie commented: “This is an important key milestone in the delivery of the vessel. Sea trials will start soon and we will take delivery in August. We are very impressed with the quality of the build and the whole process has gone smoothly.” “The day has been very successful and the weather remained kind to us. The location in Rotterdam was ideal. The Bibby WaveMaster 1 will now undergo a few days of final systems testing before starting operations on 18 September with James Fisher Marine Services at Innogy’s 336MW Galloper wind farm off the coast of Suffolk, UK, performing winter commissioning work on the project's substation and 56 Siemens 6MW turbines.”
